چکیده
We study the impact of manipulating attention a decision?maker who learns sequentially about number items before making choice. Under natural assumptions on decision?maker's strategy, directing toward one item increases its likelihood being chosen regardless value. This result applies when can reject all in favor an outside option with known value; if no is available, direction effect manipulation depends value item. A similar to choices bandit problems.

Attention Please! A Hybrid Resource Recommender Mimicking Attention-Interpretation Dynamics
Classic resource recommenders like Collaborative Filtering (CF) treat users as being just another entity, neglecting nonlinear user-resource dynamics shaping attention and interpretation. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid recommendation strategy that refines CF by capturing these dynamics. The evaluation results reveal that our approach substantially improves CF and, depending on the dat...
متن کاملAttention, please! Expanding the GECO database
This paper describes current and future contents of the (GErman COnversations) conversations database and promotes investigating the role of attention in phonetics research. GECO is freely available for non-commercial use. It consists of conversations of high-audio quality between female subjects, together with results of personality tests of each participant, and participants’ ratings of each ...
متن کاملAttention applicants: please submit emotional intelligence scores.
To the Editor: The variables used to select medical school applicants should be robust and provide practical information. They should be valid, reliable, transferable from one context to another, and demonstrate candidates’ effectiveness in decision-making processes. As medical school applicants progressed from high school through college, they demonstrated the ability to learn new material (ie...
متن کاملMay I have your attention, please: electrocortical responses to positive and negative stimuli.
Previous research has shown that negative stimuli elicit more attention than do positive stimuli. However, this research has relied on response-based measures to assess attention. The current research uses the P1 component of the event-related brain potential (ERP) as a proximal index of attention allocation to valenced stimuli. In two studies, P1 amplitude was measured while participants evalu...
متن کاملYour attention please: an evaluation of animated visual signals for ATC alarms and notifications
Alarm design on air traffic control displays is a growing concern as events to be notified grow in number and diversity. Safety requires visual notifications that can be efficiently detected. It also requires that no information on the radar display is obscured by the visual notifications. We also need to design hierarchies of notifications, from most severe to begnin. Taking advantage of the c...
